Volunteer Information
PAWS Houston is dedicated to preserving the human/animal bond between our clients and their companion animals. Those that we serve are people with limited abilities and the animals with whom they share their lives.
We have needs for volunteers on all levels of commitment.
- Delivery teams for our pet food bank.
- Provide transportation to/from veterinary and/or grooming appointments.
- Dog walking, cat care, fish bowl maintenance, bird cage cleaning and more.
- Fostering a pet while their owner is in the hospital.
- Conducting neighborhood, park, corporate, or school outreach.
- Staffing our many fun, fundraising events.
- Office work including data entry, reception and mailings.
Do you have a love for pets, a desire to help individuals less fortunate than you, or drive to help your community. We are only able to function and serve clients through dedicated volunteers.
If you want to help, please email us at info@pawshouston.org. It is only with your help that we can continue to offer services to improve the quality of life of pet owners.
VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Dog Walking
Volunteers on dog walking teams help walk dogs for those who are bed-bound
or home-bound. Dog walking volunteers usually walk a dog one to three
times per week as part of a team of scheduled volunteers. After trying
the walking position several times, we ask for a six month commitment.
Cat Care
Volunteers on cat care teams clean cat pans for clients who are unable
to clean the pan. Volunteers are responsible for one cleaning a week
unless otherwise arranged. We ask for a six month commitment.
Other In-home Animal Care
While they are rare we will sometimes have requests for in-home help
with other pets such as birds, fish and bunnies. We also get requests
for specific needs sometimes such as bathing or nail clipping.
Foster Care
Our clients are often sick and need hospital care. During these times
we help by providing foster care and adoption services for their pets.
We are constantly in need of volunteers with pet-friendly apartments
to assist in fostering pets.
Adoption
We are not an adoption service, however under the emergency circumstance
of a client passing away or permanently going into hospice that prohibits
animals, we offer adoption as a service.
Office Work
We are constantly in need of office volunteers. Volunteers help in
the office with reception, making phone calls, data entry, mailings
and just about everything else under the sun.
Food Bank
Volunteers are needed to work at food drives at various pet stores
and grocery stores. Usually one Saturday per month. We distribute
pet food, leashes, cat litter, toys and other supplies to our clients.
Help as a rider or driver making deliveries to clients who are homebound.
Pet Transportation
Our pets need your help to get to their vet or grooming appointment.
PAWS volunteers with cars can help by providing the transportation.
Food Donation Delivery
Often PAWS will need help picking up donated items or taking donated
items to our food bank. If you have a car or truck, transportation
of pet supplies is one great way that you can help.
Fundraising Events
PAWS is constantly looking for help organizing and running its fundraisers.
We need volunteers to chair events.
Outreach Staffing
PAWS outreach is important for spreading the word about what PAWS
does. Outreach staffers set up, staff tables, and sell merchandise
at animal events, beer busts and fundraisers for PAWS.
